AMERICHEM SYNTHETIC NYLON FIBER SOLUTIONS

Americhem is a preferred global color and additive manufacturer with a full line of technologies designed specifically to modify nylon synthetic fibers.

What Is Nylon Fiber?

Is nylon a synthetic fiber? And what are the various nylon fiber properties? Nylon, also known as polyamide (PA), was the very first synthetic fiber ever made and only the fifth basic textile development in nearly 4,000 years. This amazingly versatile material is derived from petrochemicals and is among the most widely used engineered thermoplastics on the planet. Synthetic nylon is made up of polymers that contain carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen.

What Are Synthetic Fibers?

Custom synthetic fibers are typically made of synthetic materials that go through various chemical processes. During these processes, fibers are extracted using a spinneret, taking polymers to form fibers. Custom synthetic fibers offer a more affordable and more easily mass-produced alternative to natural fibers. To create nylon synthetic fibers, synthetic nylon manufacturers take solid chips of polyamides and melt them down, forcing them through a heated spinneret. The size and shape of the holes in the spinneret help to change the characteristics of the resulting synthetic fiber. The synthetic nylon fibers solidify as they cool and can then be either spun or woven.

POLYAMIDE PERFORMANCE THAT ENDURES

Nylon synthetic fibers offer several advantages over naturally occurring fibers, including superior strength, light weight, elasticity, toughness, abrasion resistance, water-resistance and washing capabilities. These benefits make nylon synthetic material an ideal choice for a wide range of products that we innately use in our lives each day. Americhem offers a full line of additive technologies instrumental to the property modification of nylon synthetic fiber, allowing manufacturers to achieve significant gains beyond nylon’s core tenacity.

Additive Technologies for Improved Nylon Performance

Americhem supplies premium color and additive masterbatches to help manufacturers that use nylon synthetic fibers achieve limitless possibilities. While we don’t make nylon synthetic fibers, we do make them better. Our unique chemistries can be incorporated and sometimes combined to meet flame-retardant, antimicrobial, UV stabilization, stain resistance, colorfastness and heat stabilization requirements.

Synthetic Solutions for Multiple Markets

From consumer goods like performance apparel, floor coverings and automotive interior fabrics to synthetic turf applications, Americhem partners with some of the world’s largest fiber producers to deliver additive and color technologies that help shape and differentiate their nylon product lines. Ask us how we can meet your aesthetic and performance targets.

Unmatched Synthetic Fiber Expertise

Americhem leverages its expertise as a polymer composites manufacturer and custom masterbatch designer to engineer advanced technologies for nylon synthetic fiber producers. We pioneered the technology used for solution dyeing of nylon fiber, which elevated our position as synthetic nylon material specialists. While subjected to continuous improvement, many of the color designs we developed initially are still widely applied in the industry today. Our sustainable approach helps fiber producers reduce their water and energy consumption, leading to increased cost savings and reduced carbon footprints.

Innovating Fiber Technology for the Future

Americhem’s product portfolio has a proven track record of superior performance and quality. While our position as an innovator has remained steadfast for decades, we are continually researching and developing new technologies to meet our customers’ ever-evolving needs and preferences. As we look ahead to the future, we remain committed to furthering the science of additives and colorants used in synthetic fibers and textiles. We are proud to continue leading the effort to broaden the use of sustainable polymer platforms through collaborative initiatives.
